Emergency fix implemented for deteriorated Moncks Corner road

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – Crews began some work this week to repair a series of potholes at the entrance of the Shannonwood subdivision.

News 2 first told you back in April about the poor road conditions and potholes up and down Shannonwood Drive in Moncks Corner.

Mayor Thomas Hamilton said he was going to do something to try and get the problem fixed. Now, crews began steps to make those necessary repairs.

“We’ve put an emergency request in with Berkeley County Roads and Bridges, and they agreed to come out and patch. Right now, they’ve got rock, but I think they’re gonna end up with more patching,” said Mayor Hamilton. “I really want to thank Berkeley County Roads and Bridges, and Supervisor Johnny Cribb for working with us as a partner to help these residents.”

Mayor Hamilton said county crews on Thursday filled the potholes with rock. He is applying for state funding to get the road fully repaved in the future.

“You think of those big holes, and a police officer that’s trying to get to someone in need, or a firefighter trying to get to someone in need, and they hit one of those potholes fast — they can blow out a tire and then they’re delayed response,” said Mayor Hamilton.
