Dedication Ceremony For Lafayette Heights Park Improvements Held

The City of Mobile recently held a dedication ceremony for Lafayette Heights Park to commemorate several improvements made to it in recent years. The dedication included the unveiling of a new iron archway identifying the park as a central part of the historic Lafayette Heights neighborhood. Late City Councilman Levon C. Manzie championed a previous CIP project that invested nearly $200,000 to add a walking trail, benches, trash receptacles and other amenities to the area. The project also included an overhaul of the park’s landscaping designed by the late landscape architect Terry C. Plauche. Over the last year, members of the community, led by Mary Stevenson, have worked with City Councilman William Carroll and Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s office to add signage and an iron archway that properly recognize the park as the gateway to the Lafayette Heights Historic District.
