That night, a woman had reported to police that two men had attempted to steal her vehicle. She said one of the suspects had a gun. She kept her doors locked, was able to drive off and later notified an officer who had been parked in his police car.

Three days prior, a similar carjacking at gunpoint occurred, though the suspects remained at large at the time. Police then found a vehicle with a license plate matching the stolen car from Nov. 9, 2022, via traffic camera footage. The car drove through an intersection less than an hour before the early-evening attempted carjacking that occurred on Nov. 12.
