Charleston Police officer competing in Worldwide CrossFit Games

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCBD)—On Friday, The Charleston Police Department SWAT team gathered at the Iron Bridge in West Ashley to exercise and celebrate an officer competing in a worldwide competition.

Anthony Vazquez, a SWAT member with the department, was left speechless after officers came to work out and cheer him on his journey to compete in the CrossFit games.

Vazquez is a member of the Charleston Police Department’s SWAT team and an avid cross-fit athlete. He’s been selected to participate in the masters CrossFit games.

“I thought it would be a local community thing within the gym and my family and friends, and seeing them all wearing the shirts and then being here was special,” said Vazquez.

Vasquez will compete against 40 men, hoping to earn the title of the fittest man in the world.  He told News 2 that he’s trained for this event for years, and it feels good to know his hard work finally paid off.

“It’s been ten years now with consistent training where I can qualify for the masters Cross the games, and it’s a lot of work, work, life, home life, and in the gym, and it finally paid off.”
