Wichita man who skipped manslaughter sentence found in Topeka

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department says a man who disappeared before his manslaughter sentence last week has been found in Topeka.

Kevin Harris was out on bond and wearing an ankle monitor after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in April. Prosecutors said he shot and killed 51-year-old Jose Lumbreras in August 2023 on North Broadway.

He was supposed to be sentenced last week on Aug. 14, but police say he cut off his ankle monitor and did not show up in court. The court issued a warrant for Harris’ arrest.
