Longmont police looking for person of interest in multiple rooftop burglaries

LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — A local tattoo shop is speaking out after being broken into twice, while Longmont police are on the lookout for a rooftop burglar.

The Black Kraken Tattoo Studio , along Main Street in Longmont, said in the last three months, their shop has been broken into twice — once at the end of May and again two weeks ago. Three employees were also reportedly held at gunpoint in July.

“Hopefully this stops so we get more peace of mind so we don’t have to be on such high alert, worried constantly and consistently about somebody disturbing our second home,” said Black Kraken co-owner Natasha Minyard.

In both break-ins, the Black Kraken said the suspect got in through their roof, and then opened a hole in their breakroom wall into the neighboring business. The suspect reportedly stole supplies used to tattoo, as well.

“I think it was a crime of convenience and opportunity — the easiest way without causing a big commotion. All this glass, he could break it and alert everybody in the area, but the convenience of being able to climb up on the roof and cut open the HVAC, in his mind I guess, was easier and more opportunistic than breaking glass in front of our shop,” said Minyard.
