Northern Indiana — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:05 PM EDT on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

NORTHERN INDIANAThe National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio, effective from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. With heat indices expected to soar to 105 degrees or higher, the region is facing extreme heat that poses significant health risks, particularly for those engaged in outdoor activities.

Severe Heat Conditions Expected

Residents across the affected areas should prepare for dangerously hot conditions on Tuesday, with temperatures and humidity combining to produce heat indices around or above 105 degrees. The heat will be especially taxing on vulnerable populations and those without access to air conditioning.

Overnight heat indices are expected to bottom out around 75 degrees into both Tuesday morning and Tuesday night, making it difficult for those affected by the extreme heat to recover. The National Weather Service stresses the importance of staying hydrated, remaining in cool, air-conditioned spaces, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
