RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It has been 108 years since the creation of the National Park Service (NPS), and 8News has several ways for Richmond residents to celebrate!
According to the NPS , they were created on this day — Aug. 25 — back in 1916, and they have grown into over 430 national parks throughout their 108 year span.
There are several National Park Service sites within close reach for Richmond residents including:
- Richmond National Battlefield Park
- Featuring hiking trails, museum exhibits, educational resources and more
- Petersburg National Battlefield
- Featuring the Poplar Grove National Cemetery, archeology, civil war education and more
