Battalion Chief Derak Stewart says, “They did find heavy fire in the southern part of this old motel complex.”

This is not the first time the metro motel has burst into flames.

“This structure and this occupancy have caught fire multiple times, and our crews did the best they could do with the situation at hand,” says Stewart.

“I went there to see what was going on, and there was like crazy flames coming from that building.”

Also saying, “This was the first largest fire I’ve seen since I came here ten years ago.”

Stewart says the wind played a big part in how fast the flames spread throughout the building.

He also mentioned two people and a dog being on the second floor of the building. They managed to escape in time.
