NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – If you have unpaid medical bills, you’re among the many Louisianans grappling with medical debt. According to 2022 data from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, over 21% of people in the state have outstanding medical bills. Only two states have a higher percentage of residents with medical debt, South Carolina (22.87%) and West Virginia (24.99%).
