Severe Thunderstorms Erupt Across Parts of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut

Strong to Severe Storms May Reach Long Island, N.Y.

Good afternoon everyone. In this morning’s article, we focused on our severe weather risk out in the Upper Midwest expected later this evening and overnight. Now we turn our eyes towards New England and Eastern Long Island as some upper air energy is interacting with the muggy air and sunshine.

Individual strong to severe thunderstorm cells have begun to form loosely knit clusters and heading in a north-to-south fashion down across parts of southern Vermont, central and southern New Hampshire, cental, western, and southeast Massachusetts, and central Connecticut. We also have some heavy storms well north of Albany, NY that are touching off severe thunderstorm warnings.

Storms located in the New England area have had a history of quarter size hail, winds up to 60mph, torrential rain, and frequent lightning. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issue a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in parts of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and eastern Long Island until 7pm. Watches may need to be extended/expanded as the action moves and/or new storms form.
