Ford has a new EV strategy. Here’s what it means for Kentucky

Ford Motor Co., with its vast Kentucky presence, has been an integral part of the automotive industry and the commonwealth for decades.

Now, the company with its two Louisville assembly plants and its soon-to-come-online $5.8 billion battery park in Glendale, has announced steep changes to its electric vehicle strategy .

These changes include a delayed rollout of full-size pickup truck EVs until 2027, cancelation of producing an EV three-row SUV along with a focus on developing its next-generation EV and hybrid vehicle lineup.

Kentucky, the ” EV Capital of the U.S. ,” is expecting Ford to play a major part in the statewide transition to an electric auto industry.

“Kentucky is critical to the future of Ford and our largest employee base in the U.S. outside of Michigan. Our two plants in Louisville produce some of our most iconic and successful vehicles,” said Ford President and CEO Jim Farley. “Next year, we will launch an all-new Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator at Kentucky Truck Plant alongside our industry-leading F-Series Super Duty. The BlueOval SK battery joint venture in Kentucky will be a critical supplier as we advance our electric vehicle strategy.”
