University of Richmond hosting panel featuring Grammy-winning rapper Killer Mike

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A panel discussion focusing on the future of free expression hosted by the University of Richmond will feature Grammy Award-winning rapper and political activist Killer Mike.

The discussion, which will be moderated by University of Richmond liberal arts professor Erik Nielson and journalist Bonnie Newman Davis, will feature author Mike Curato, American Civil Liberties Union attorney Emerson Sykes and George Washington University law professor Mary Anne Franks, in addition to Killer Mike.

“We look forward to bringing together this panel of artists and experts who understand as well as anyone the importance of free expression,” Nielson said. “While free speech is supposed to be protected by the Constitution, those protections are not absolute or consistently extended to all Americans. We will grapple with the implications of that and more during this event.”

The event is free but tickets, which can be found here , are required. The discussion will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Modlin Center for the Arts.
