‘Oh my God, the house is on fire.’ Neighbor devastated by Hampton fire

HAMPTON, Va.(WAVY)– About 35 firefighters in Hampton responded to a fire early Tuesday morning.

According to officials, crews were called to the 0 block of Teakwood Court at 2:47 a.m. for the report of a residential structure fire. When crews arrived, they found flames coming from the roof.

Crews were able to get the fire out in 30 minutes. No one was home during the time of the fire, but officials believe someone does live there.

A neighbor, Nathaniel Bryant, told 10 On Your Side his family called 911 after his godson noticed flames and smoke coming from the home.

“Out of nowhere it was just, ‘oh my God, the house is on fire.’ You know, he got us up. And immediately from there, it was just jump up, get dressed and kind of see what was going on,” Bryant said. “Just to see something like this unexpectedly and it happened so fast, it’s kind of just a mind-blowing thing.”

Bryant said he has been trying to get in contact with his neighbor because he doesn’t know if the neighbor is aware a fire destroyed his home of several years. According to the neighbor, a man lived in the house with his mother who died a few years ago.
