City: Stop opening Kalamazoo fire hydrants

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities in Kalamazoo are telling residents not to open fire hydrants as West Michigan deals with soaring temperatures.

Kalamazoo Public Services said in a Tuesday news release that there has been a significant increase in the number of people opening fire hydrants. It notes that opening and closing fire hydrants can cause serious injury, impact traffic and damage underground pipes.
