Bakersfield police arrest 1 for reckless driving

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One person was arrested after reckless driving near Mesa Marin Sports Complex in east Bakersfield Sunday evening.

Police were dispatched near the Mesa Marin Sports Complex off Highway 178 in east Bakersfield for multiple reports of vehicles blocking access to neighborhoods and possible gunshots.

Police say residents have made similar reports in the past.

At the scene, a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and evading charges. Police say eight citations were issued and three vehicles were impounded.

Another vehicle displayed ‘dangerous driving patterns’ and police attempted to stop the vehicle. A vehicle pursuit began, according to the police department.

Police deployed Stop Sticks, a device used for tire deflation, in the area of Hillcrest Cemetery.

Officials say the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and subjected the community to an unreasonable level of risk. Due to this, the police ended the pursuit.
