Nearly two-hour rescue saves man ran over by Ann Arbor train

A young man narrowly avoided death after being run over by a train in Ann Arbor Monday night.

Crews worked for 110 minutes to rescue the 20-year-old man, whose left hand was caught, trapping him on the tracks. The incident occurred when a freight train going northbound on the Ann Arbor Railroad tracks ran over the man, who was sleeping on the train tracks, according to the Ann Arbor Fire Department.

“Shockingly, the hand injury was the only major trauma,” the post read. “Due to the patient’s location combined with strength of the metal of this part of the locomotive, extrication efforts were incredibly challenging.”

Firefighters responded to the scene at the railroad tracks between Huron Street and Miller Avenue in Ann Arbor at 9:37 p.m. Monday, the Ann Arbor Fire Department posted on Facebook. The train had been moving slowly and stopped in a short distance, per the department.
