Officials rescue manatee from Oldsmar retention pond

OLDSMAR, Fla. (WFLA) — A manatee was rescued from a retention pond earlier this week in Oldsmar, the city announced on Tuesday.

The “sea cow” was found in a pond at Bicentennial Park, although it is unknown how long the animal was there.

Officials were able to save the manatee and safely return it to the waters at Veterans Park.

“This gentle giant is now back where he belongs,” the City of Oldmars wrote in a Facebook post .

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission , manatees are typically found in rivers, estuaries, bays, and canals.
