A petition for a grand jury investigation of an Oklahoma County official failed. What’s next?

A judge has ruled that a petition attempting to impanel a grand jury investigation into an Oklahoma County commissioner failed to amass enough signatures.

Judge Kory Kirkland dismissed the petition as “null and void” Friday, saying that the necessary number of 5,000 signatures had not been met.

“The signatures of qualified electors to impanel a grand jury in Oklahoma County is the maximum number of 5,000,” Kirkland wrote, citing Oklahoma Constitution Article 2, Section 18.

A group of Del City leaders said they had gathered more than 5,000 signatures when they submitted the petition on Aug. 12, but officials with the Oklahoma County Election Board announced Aug. 20 they’d validated only 4,180 of them.

The organizers, headed by Rep. Andy Fugate, D-Del City; Mayor Floyd Eason; and local school board member Gina Standridge, alleged that Oklahoma County Commissioner Myles Davidson should be investigated for “corruption in office and willful maladministration.”
