First Tee breaks ground on new space in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — First Tee, a Wichita nonprofit, is celebrating an expansion of its space, which will allow it to serve more children for longer periods.

First Tee Greater Wichita broke ground on its new Indoor Youth Learning Center on Tuesday. The nonprofit empowers kids through the game of golf.

The indoor learning facility allows for instruction during cold months and dark evenings. It will connect golf students with mentors year-round.

First Tee said it wants every kid to have the chance to learn to play.

“Starting as young as 5 through high school, kids have the opportunity to access the sport at low to no cost,” Trent Jones, executive director of First Tee Greater Wichita, said. “They have the opportunity to access golf supplies, equipment, and clubs at low to no cost through First Tee.”

Construction on the new space is expected to take eight months, and the hope is for the new space to open in late spring 2025.
