Wednesday, August 28 forecast: Labor Day weekend heat relief

It’s been a hot 3-day stretch of temperatures with each day in the mid-90s feeling like near 100°. Expect more of the same today and Thursday before a cold front ushers in that familiar fall feel for the Labor Day holiday.

Aside from being hot, there is a slight chance for isolated showers and storms today and Thursday in the late afternoon and evening. Most spots will stay dry, but locally, brief heavy rainfall is possible.

Rain chances will perk up on Friday as a trough redevelops in the East. This is a pattern we’ve seen several times this summer. We have a pair of cold fronts headed our way too, the first on Friday and the second on Sunday.

Friday’s cold front will bring a decent chance for scattered rain and thunderstorms. Rain chances are highest later in the day Friday into the evening. No severe weather is expected, but pockets of heavy rain and lightning are likely.

This will cool things down for the weekend pushing temperatures down to the mid-80s. Rain will linger across far Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas on Saturday.
