Family files $5 million-plus claim over BPD vehicle death

Family members of a man struck and killed by a Bakersfield Police Department vehicle in June have filed a claim against the city seeking damages of more than $5 million. On June 17 at around 3:30 a.m., Brandon Elliot Gabriel Flores was hit by a BPD vehicle and killed while crossing the street near the 1500 block of South Union Avenue. BPD later confirmed the vehicle was responding to a report of an auto theft and was traveling without emergency lights or sirens.
