Summerville PD to step up impaired driving enforcement over Labor Day weekend

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – People traveling in the Summerville area will see a heavier law enforcement presence over the Labor Day holiday weekend as officers increase efforts to curb impaired driving.

Aggressive DUI patrols and traffic safety checkpoints will take place on Monday, September 2 beginning at 4 p.m.

Summerville officers will be stationed on North Maple Street to “enhance public safety” by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

The department encouraged residents to make driving sober a priority. They say if you plan to celebrate the end of summer will alcohol you should arrange a safe and sober ride home.

Ensure all guests have a sober ride home if you are hosting a gathering, and anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver should call 9-1-1.
