Spokane TV legend Dennis Patchin retires after 40-year career

SPOKANE, Wash. — After 40 years of TV and radio in the Inland Northwest, Dennis Patchin is retiring from television.

Patchin joined KXLY in 1984 and worked in the building until 2020. He was part of a legendary sports team with Bud Nameck and Rick Lukens, who started the “Friday Night Sports Extra,” treating high school football games like the Super Bowl.

He has also covered Super Bowls, Rose Bowls, and numerous NCAA tournaments with Gonzaga, including the first few as the Zags’ play-by-play voice on the radio.

Friends and family know Patchin for his passionate reporting, signature Hawaiian shirts, and his trademark line, “Are you kidding me?”

He is now the voice of the Vandals, taking on what he calls a part-time job for the football and basketball seasons.

Years ago, he told his wonderful wife, Dorothy, that becoming the voice of the Vandals would be the perfect way to go out.
