New 4-way stop being added in the deadly Arvin triangle

ARVIN, Calif. (KGET) — Sunset Boulevard and Malaga Drive are in the heart of The Arvin Triangle, one of the deadliest areas for drivers in Kern.

The intersection has been the site of at least eight crashes in the past three years, these stop signs being put in place are looking to change that.

The Arvin Triangle is the rural area between Union Avenue, Bear Mountain Blvd and Highway 58. This area of Kern had at least 85 deaths between 2015 to 2022.

One Arvin resident, Francisco Hernandez, works at a body shop at the intersection where the stop signs are going up. His friend who died in a crash in the Arvin Triangle.

“In recent years, I’ve seen three accidents,” Hernandez said. “And, by the way, a friend of mine died exactly on this highway, on 184, unfortunately, she died approximately four years ago.”

Sunset and Malaga had car debris on the side of the road, with what looks like part of the front of a car, and a buried car part.
