CSUB confirms death of student on campus, no foul play suspected

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Officials with Cal State Bakersfield confirmed a student died at the housing complex on campus and a vigil is scheduled to be held.

Officials say De’Andre Blockmon, 25, died in his room at the CSUB Student Housing Complex on Aug. 24.

Five University Police Department officers responded to the call of an unconscious man, identified as Blockmon, around 10:44 a.m. in the housing complex. Officials say officers immediately administered medical aid.

The Bakersfield Fire Department and ambulance crews were called out to the scene. Officials say medical aid was administered to Blockmon by medical personnel. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Due to protocol, the Bakersfield Police Department was dispatched to process the scene, according to officials.

Interim Cal State Bakersfield Chief of Police Maricela Gonzalez told officials there were no signs of foul play.
