EMSA medical heat alert expires as temperatures drop

OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – EMSA’s medical heat alert has been allowed to expired as the weather begins to cool down .

According to EMSA, since the alert was issued on August 17, medics have responded to 44 heat-related illness calls and taken 23 patients to local hospitals.

For the entire month of August, officials say medics in the Oklahoma City area responded to 89 heat-related illness calls and taken 53 patients to local hospitals.

EMSA issues a heat alert when paramedics respond to five or more heat-related illness calls in a 24-hour period.
