Community stands up to bullies by escorting Bakersfield boy to school

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A bullying incident that has circulated the internet , allegedly involving two high school students tormenting a middle school student, led to a heartwarming community moment Friday morning.

Bakersfield police and community members surprised the boy at home with an escort to school.

“It makes me excited and happy,” 12-year-old, Carter Lashaul said.

In the viral video, investigators say two teens are seen hitting Carter and forcing him to lick the bottom of a shoe.

BPD arrested the 14-year-old and 15-year-old suspects, but the family says the incident continues to affect Carter even after the arrests.

In an effort to take a stand against bullying, community members came together Friday to walk side by side with Carter.

“We reached out to him the first night, we showed up, you know just to give him comfort…I mean showing the support and showing that we’re there for him is the most important thing,” neighbor Anna Zendejas said.
