1 dead, 1 wounded in shooting in Oildale, shooter remains on the loose: KCSO

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a woman was killed and another person wounded in a shooting in Oildale Thursday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 4:20 p.m. in the 2700 block of Olympic Drive near Highland Elementary School. On Friday, KCSO said homicide detectives arrived at the scene and found an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, the office said through a news release.

KCSO also said the surviving victim suffered minor injuries. Investigators are still searching for the shooter or shooters.

The shooting triggered a huge law enforcement response with patrol vehicles lining the street.

According to the app Pulsepoint, a call for a medical emergency went out just after 4:15 p.m. on Olympic Drive.

A notification was sent out to parents from Highland Elementary School that the school was temporarily on lockdown.
