Time is up to break in on new Kentucky medical cannabis business

FRANKFORT, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Kentucky is one step closer to medical marijuana. The Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis will close the cannabis business license portal on Saturday.

In July, the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis started accepting applications for cannabis business licenses through the online Business Licensing Application portal .

Once the application closes, the office will begin the license lottery process.

According to the Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program , there are four types of businesses that will operate in Kentucky, including cultivators , processors , safety compliance facilities , and dispensaries .

There will be 10 licenses available for processors, 16 for cultivators, and 48 for dispensaries spread out across 11 regions , ensuring Kentuckians with qualifying conditions have the shortest drive possible to a dispensary.

Businesses are expected to know if they will receive a license, by lottery or not, in October.
