Lower chance of storms to end August, higher to start September

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – We have one more day to set an August rainfall record at SRQ. Back in August 1981, we hit 24.42″. So far in 2024 our total is 23.55″. Other rain totals include 18.02″ in Bradenton and 30.28″ in Lakewood Ranch. We have one last chance for August rain on Saturday, but thunderstorms look minimal for Saturday. Then Sunday more widespread storms are likely for our first September rains, mainly in the late afternoon and evening. There’s no change in our weather pattern for the first week of the month. Typically our rainy-season afternoon storms start to taper off in late September.
