In Rhode Island, lifeguards will be on duty and the bathrooms and concession stands will be open through Monday, Sept. 2. However, the R.I. Department of Environmental Management (DEM) warned that fewer lifeguards and reduced swimming areas should be expected since students make up a large portion of that workforce.

The DEM said there will be no lifeguards on duty at East Beach, Fort Adams State Park and Burlingame State Park Picnic Area.

“When lifeguards are not on duty, swimmers are responsible for their own safety,” the DEM wrote in a press release. “Parental or adult supervision is critical.”

Beyond Labor Day, there will still be concessions on weekends at Misquamicut and Salty Brine state beaches, while portable toilets will be available at “most locations,” according to the DEM.
