Labor Day expected to be hot and wet as weather experts eye tropics

Residents of Palm Beach County can expect to have a wet, hot and humid Labor Day weekend with thunderstorms and rip currents paired with high temperatures.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Miami are tracking three tropical disturbances, with one projected to develop into a tropical cyclone. South Florida is not expected to be hit, but will receive intermittent rain, especially during late morning and early afternoon hours, weather officials said.

“There’s going to be scattered showers and thunderstorms this weekend on and off, but it’s not going to be a washout,” Chuck Caracozza, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Miami, said Saturday.

In Palm Beach County, chances of rain are between 50 to 70% this weekend and Monday. On Labor Day, the high temperature is forecast to be 89 degrees, but “feels-like” heat index temperatures could reach as high as 100 degrees because of the high levels of humidity, the National Weather Service said. Showers and thunderstorms are given a 60% chance of probability on Monday.
