Pedestrian hit by car, killed near Lawton

ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man died early Sunday when he was hit by a car northeast of Lawton.

It happened around 4:20 a.m. on County Road 657 near Two Oaks Circle in Antwerp Township.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office says a 78-year-old Lawton man was walking in the road when he was hit by car. He died at the scene. His name was not released later Sunday morning.

The man wasn’t wearing reflective clothing and was “well into the travel lane” when he was hit by the northbound car, deputies said.

They say the driver is cooperating with their investigation.

County Road 657 was closed between 62nd Avenue and Drape Road for about four hours while crews were on scene investigating.
