Texas Rules Population Boom as Dallas and Houston Lead the Nation

Texas Cements Reign as America’s Population Growth Engine

Texas remained the nation’s leader in population growth, with multiple cities ranking among the top 10 metro areas that experienced the largest population increases last year.

The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex continued its explosive growth in 2023, outpacing all other U.S. metro areas by adding a staggering 152,000 new residents, according to newly released Census Bureau data. This population influx is equivalent to absorbing an entire city.

The region’s breakneck expansion builds on its momentum from early 2023 when D-FW’s population surpassed the 8 million mark. Its nearest rival, the Houston metro area, also exhibited remarkable growth by welcoming over 139,000 new residents and pushing its total population to 7.5 million. Both Texas powerhouses left other major metro areas like Atlanta, which gained just 68,000 new residents, in the dust.

The population growth in Texas was further highlighted by the Austin and San Antonio metro areas ranking 7th and 9th respectively in population growth.
