Scooter ignites, causes fire in Northwest apartment

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Firefighters were on the scene of an apartment fire in Northwest on Sunday afternoon after a scooter ignited.

In an X post at nearly 4:30 p.m., the DC Fire and EMS Department said that firefighters were on the scene of a fire in the 3700 block of 16th St.

The fire was in a third-floor apartment in an occupied five-story building. Responders got the fire under control, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators confirmed that a lithium-ion battery-powered scooter ignited inside the apartment, causing the fire. A hazmat unit was in the process of securing the batteries.
