Florida Tijuana Flats Shut Down After A State Inspection

Some Floridians may realize that Tijuana Flats has reportedly been having difficulty in some Florida markets this year. In February, I wrote about the Florida-based chain filing for bankruptcy and Florida locations that closed their doors. And now, one store in Gainesville was temporarily shut down after a state inspection.

About Tijuana Flats In Florida: The first store in this chain opened in central Florida. It was started by a college student named Brian Wheeler who had never worked in a restaurant but who wanted to open one. His father loaned him the money to open his first store, but the concept would eventually expand. The chain’s website says it strives to offer bold flavors and community involvement – having raised over $4,000,000 for good causes.

The location in question receives 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Reviews are somewhat mixed. While some loved the flavors and offerings, others criticized the quality. A reviewer named Eli mentioned cleanliness writing in part:

“Three-star review (because) this place was absolutely filthy when we got (there) on Saturday at lunchtime. The floor, the tables, and the bathrooms were completely (in) disarray – greasy and just downright not taken care of.”
