Two firefighters rescued after running out of air while saving Dearborn man from “fully engulfed” burning home

DEARBORN (WWJ) Two Dearborn firefighters, who went entered a burning home to save a man, needed to be rescued when they ran out of air; fire officials said.

Dearborn fire officials said the three-alarm fire broke out Monday (9/2) around 7:30 a.m. at a home on Detroit Street, near Rotunda and Pelham.

Firefighters rushed into the home to save a man trapped inside. The firefighters ran out of air. A mayday was called, according to fire officials.

A Special Response Team entered the house, and rescued both the firefighters and the man.

According to fire officials, the house was “fully engulfed” in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene and sustained “significant damage.”

The man is being treated for “severe burns” at the burn unit at Detroit Receiving Hospital. His condition is unknown.

The Fire Marshal is investigating.
