Triple digit temps expected across Kern, Excessive Heat Watch begins Wednesday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Expect a high of 100 degrees in the San Joaquin Valley on Labor Day. Increased winds in eastern Kern County are expected Monday evening, most noticeably along the Mojave Desert slopes.

By Wednesday, the heat risk across much of the San Joaquin Valley rises into the high category as daytime maximum temperatures rise to around 103.

Thursday and Friday are expected to even be slightly warmer as the ridge continues to slowly strengthen. An Excessive Heat Watch remains in effect for most of our lower elevation locations from Fresno County southward between Wednesday morning and Friday evening as probabilistic and Heat Risk data continue to suggest heat highlights for these areas.

In addition to the rising temperatures, lowering daytime humidity will result in an increased risk of grass fires by mid-week.
