This is a recipe I have been making my family for several years. It is a recipe that was given to us by a restaurant that we love to visit. They printed the recipe in the visitor flyer they were giving out. You will need the following ingredients:
Recipe:
3 cups of all purpose flour
1 cup of milk
1 egg, beaten
4 tablespoons of butter, melted
1/4 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 orange, rind and the juice
1 cup of finely chopped apples
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
optional: powdered sugar
Preheat a deep fryer or a quart of oil in a heavy bottomed pan to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl add the flour, milk, egg, butter, sugar, salt, orange juice and rind, apples, baking powder and vanilla extract.
I like to grate the apples as this makes smaller and more even pieces.
Stir this together until is it well combined.
Carefully spoon the apple mixture, using two small spoons, into the hot oil. Turn when they float to the top and continue turning them until they reach a golden brown color.
