Three cars, a hit-and-run crash, one person killed and a Walgreens parking lot in Miami

One man was killed in an overnight Labor Day crash that involved three cars, a Walgreens parking lot and a driver who ran off into Miami, Coral Gables or unincorporated Miami-Dade County.

The man who died at the scene of the crash, Southwest Eighth Street and LeJeune Road aka 42nd Avenue, was 29, Miami police said.

The 3:35 a.m. crash also shut down Southwest Eighth Street west of LeJeune well into Monday morning. The Walgreens at 4200 SW Eighth St. remained open despite parts of cars and a lamppost being strewn across its parking lot.

Though the Walgreens sits in Miami-Dade police’s jurisdiction, investigators determined the first contact between the cars was made in the city of Miami.

Exactly how the three cars wound up as they did — SUV in the middle of Southwest Eighth Street with front end crumpled, white sedan with crumpled front end over the bushes bordering Walgreens’ lot and gray sedan with its rear in the Walgreens’ parking lot — hasn’t been determined.
