A motorcyclist was killed west of San Jose on Monday when his bike collided with a boulder, California Highway Patrol said.

The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man from the city of Alameda, was traveling northbound on state Highway 35, also known as Skyline Boulevard, north of Ward Road at about 12:30 p.m. when he crashed.

According to CHP, it appears the rider of a Triumph Tiger 800 motorcycle was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and he veered off the east side of the roadway, where he impacted two traffic signs and a 25 foot boulder.

The man was pronounced deceased at 1:13 p.m. and alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision, CHP said.

The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
