Union workers honored at Rockford’s Labor Day Parade and Car Show

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford celebrated the contributions of local workers on Monday with the city’s annual Labor Day Parade and Car Show.

The parade, with the theme “Unions Stand United,” was hosted by the Rockford United Labor group, and started on 7th Street, ending at Davis Park, where the car show was held.

Members of more than 30 local unions marched in the parade, including police and firefighters.

“Our working families are the backbone of our economy, our community. So this is their day to celebrate working people and union workers in general. So it’s just an opportunity for them to come out, show their numbers enjoy each others company and just really make the City and region know that we’re a labor town, a labor community and here’s our day to celebrate it and enjoy each others company,” said Paul Nolley, one of the organizers of the Labor Day picnic.

Following the parade, vintage cars from all eras were on display at Davis Park, in honor of the American automotive worker.
