Property taxes due September 6th in Winnebago County

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Winnebago County Treasurer Susan Goral is reminding homeowners that the second installment of property taxes is due on Friday, September 6th.

While the Treasurer’s office, at 404 Elm Street, will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Goral said taxpayers are encouraged to pay the amount they owe before the due date.

First installments that have not been paid currently have a 4.5% penalty, which will increase to 6% after September 14th.

Second installments that are not paid by September 6th will incur a 1.5% penalty each month. Taxpayers should call the Treasurer’s office at (815) 319-4400 prior to mailing in late payments.

The tax payments due are divided into two installments, one due June 14th and another on September 6th, 2024.

Some homeowners’ property tax bills are paid by their mortgage company through an escrow account.
