First-ever James River EcoFest hosted by local nonprofit

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The first-ever James River EcoFest will be hosted by the James River Association (JRA) this weekend to celebrate the river and serve as an open house for the new education center.

The inaugural James River EcoFest will take place on Saturday, Sept 7. from 1 to 6 p.m. at the James A. Buzzard River Education Center. Hosted by the JRA , this free event will be a celebration of the James River Watershed, an open house and a chance to teach people more about local ecology.

There will be many different activities for attendees to enjoy, including free paddle tours, trips on JRA’s education boat (Spirit of the James), a rain barrel workshop and tree giveaways. There will be several non-profits featured as well, including the Capital Trail Foundation, Peter Paul Development and more.

As an open house event, people will have the chance to explore the new center in person. The facility opened in July of this year and it offers improved river access for those visiting as well as an environmental education hub for local students.
