St. Pete teens ‘targeted’ in drive-by shooting; one still in critical condition

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The St. Petersburg Police Department said it believes two teens were “targeted” by a shooter due to a “neighborhood dispute” on Labor Day.

Police said the 13-year-old boys were shot while riding on a bike on 22nd Street South Monday afternoon.

According to detectives, a white four-door sedan pulled up to the busy area near a convenience store, fired shots in broad daylight and then drove away.

One of the teenagers was released from the hospital, and as of Tuesday evening, a second teen shot in the incident was in critical but stable condition at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.

As of Tuesday evening, the search is still underway for the shooter.

“The most horrifying part was the picture of the bicycle laying on the ground,” Maress Scott said.

The shooting hit close to home for Scott, who lost his son to gun violence in September 2019. His son Marquis was also riding a bike when he was killed just blocks away from this latest shooting.
