New Teacher Spotlight – Police Officer Philern Davis

Today I am here to introduce to you West Boca Police Officer Philern Davis! This year is Officer Davis’s second school year being a police officer here at West Boca. And while it’s only his second year here at West Boca it’s not his first year being a police officer in a school setting. Officer Davis is originally from the Virgin Islands, and became a police officer twenty-two years ago back in 2002! When asked what made him pursue a career in criminal justice he explained that he is a very disciplined person, he served in the US Army, and his father was a police officer as well. Officer Davis’s main goal is to help his community. And by being a police officer that allows him to both do what he loves and help his community at the same time. Officer Davis enjoys being a police officer because he’s able to help those in need and he also enjoys the discipline and nature of the job. He feels that by working in a school he can be a mentor and help those that need it. Officer Davis feels that having an impact one life at a time is deeply important. Aside from that, his only dislike of the job was the long hours before working in schools. When asked how he makes important decisions in tense situations he explained that you need to stay calm, stay open minded, and listen to all sides. And he also believes that the best way to defuse a conflict is to always have good communication and talk down the situation so nothing gets more out of hand. We as students and staff are so happy to have Officer Philern Davis here to protect our West Boca High School community!
