Here’s how many people were arrested for DUI over Labor Day weekend in Hillsborough

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — For many Hillsborough County residents, Labor Day weekend was spent at parades, festivals, on the water, and, of course, at parties.

However, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was hard at work ensuring roads and waterways were free of dangerous drivers and boaters.

According to the sheriff’s office, 208 drivers and 89 boaters were stopped over the holiday weekend. Out of those stops, officers issued 277 warnings and 28 citations.

Additionally, 40 people were arrested for driving under the influence. Deputies conducted 89 boat safety inspections and one boater was arrested for boating under the influence.

“Our deputies’ commitment and efforts this weekend undoubtedly made a difference by keeping our community safe. Each arrest of an impaired driver or boater is a step toward saving lives,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Operating any vehicle, whether on land or water, while under the influence endangers yourself and everyone nearby. We will not accept this dangerous behavior and will remain committed to preventing these reckless actions.”
