SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Police Department (SPD) is working to help keep local neighborhoods safe.

SPD’s community services section hosted free neighborhood watch training for the public from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The training is geared towards existing neighborhood watch groups and those wanting to start a program.

‘We want them to have that extra knowledge, help be vigilant in their neighborhoods, protect their livelihoods and their homes and their neighbors and be able to know what to look out for when crime may be happening,” said SPD officer Brandan Locke. “The biggest goal is to try to prevent it before it can happen.”

More information on the neighborhood watch can be found on the city’s website .
