BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Two Hoover brothers accused of making over $1 million selling stolen goods online have pleaded guilty, U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona announced Wednesday.
Abdurrahman Amar, 32, and Yahya Amar, 33, each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to engage in the interstate transportation of stolen goods. The brothers could be sentenced to up to five years in prison after pleading guilty.
According to their plea agreements, Abdurrahman Amar arranged and led a group of “boosters,” also known as professional thieves, from January 2022 through December 2023. The agreements claim the boosters provided the Amars new and unopened goods for purchase like personal electronic devices and tools. The boosters acquired the items by stealing them from retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot and Lowe’s, and the Amars knew about the thefts.

The plea agreements state the Amars posted the stolen goods for resale online after purchasing the items from the boosters well below their retail value. The Amars sold the stolen items above what they bought them for but under retail value.
